Problem: bounced files have gaps at the beginning
heya all,
this is my second post regarding a problem to this forum, and i'm hoping you can be of as much assistance to me as last time! heres my problem: regardless of whether i bounce bwf wav, or aiff, i get a (roughly) 300ms gap of silence at the beginning of each outputted file. i really dont want to have to open these files in another editor and trim the silence off, so i'm wondering what the problem is, and if there is a known solution? this wasnt happening on the last setup i had with the same hardware and using SP1 and PTLE 5.x! i've searched answerbase with various phrases on this theme with no luck. heres the rig i'm working on: PTLE 6.4 with 001 XP Pro SP2 AMD Athlon 2400+ 1024 meg ram asus A7V8X motherboard M-Audio Audiophile 2496 (spdif in from 001 for output) Firewire card Pioneer DVD burner in external 5.25 caddy (firewire) Liteon CDRom Liteon DVDrom hoping someone knows better than me, Rowcliffe. |

Re: Problem: bounced files have gaps at the beginning
Does it happen if you highlight a section of your mix and bounce just the highlighted section? Also, if you don't highlight what you want bounced, PTLE will by default bounce from the beginning of the tracks to the end of the longest track. If your recordings don't start at 0, then there will be silence until your recorded tracks start.

Perhaps its your buffer setting?

Re: Problem: bounced files have gaps at the beginn
Try this: Pick any audio track that goes from start to finish, consolidate it, trim the front and back of that track to the desired start/end points of your final. Before you bounce to disk-highlight that track. Now your bounce will be exactly the length of the highlighted track. Having said all that, I import my bounces into a new session or into WaveLab and trim the head/tail and add a fadeout(if required) there. It is an extra step but I just like the control.

Re: Problem: bounced files have gaps at the beginn
thanks for your replies -
its definately not a highlighting issue, as i always specifically highlight the mix i want to bounce, no more and no less. as for buffers... you cant really turn that stuff off completely, and besides - is it relevant to bouncing? thought buffering was only for playback. and i'll check pre roll when i get home! rowy. |
