I haven't found anything repeatable, other than it randomly needs me to force quit more often than not. This was a fresh install of everything and everything is up to date. All of this was done probably not much more than 2-3 weeks ago. Curious to hear how this is coming along.

Yup, Edit your signature.

I also did a clean install with no 3rd party plugins and still no good.

Hopefully a fix is in the works.

As I mentioned in the past. I never had a software program behave like this.

Thank you for the reply! I'm sorry to hear this is still happening. I pray there is a fix for it soon! It doesn't hinder any work from being done; it's just more of a nuisance and bummer than anything.

I'm recently upgraded to a mini M1 with 2TB SSD as the 256Gb drive had become unworkable (even using several external SSDs).

I did a fresh install. I have Pro Tools 22.9.0 as I have been out of the updating loop for a while. Everything was fine, no force quits required

As I loaded my many plugins I am now back to a situation were Pro Tools requires a Force Quit because it stalls sometimes. I wonder if this is Native Instruments related as this was some of the last plugins I installed?

Also, I have a new thing of where I will quit Pro Tools and will report a crash soon after the program has quit.

I suppose it is just part of the pain of running Pro Tools, right?

Stephen

I tried with just stock plugins and I still have to force quit, so I'm not sure if it's your Native Instruments ?

Do you have the latest Monterey 12.7.3 ?

Duguy, has a workaround that works for some folks.
Ok guys, i found a small solution and it seems to work for me (need to test it more).

First, go to User>Shared and rename the Pro Tools folder as Pro Tools.old to generate a new one.

Like someone said, you can also check in User>Library>Logs>Avid>. It can be useful for the avid customer service.

Let me know if it fixs the problem for you too. I have also disabled avid link at launch to be sure.

This doesn't help solve things, but for some reason, after many months of having to force PT to quit every time I want to shut down or restart, I chose to shut down my computer this morning, and it actually shut down without my having to force PT to quit.

Since then, I can quit PT and it always quits normally. I haven't updated anything or installed anything new.

Default Re: Always having to force quit Pro Tools

is there any progress on this?

I, too, have this problem since uprading to Monterey, it was not present before that on Mojave.

Can't bug support about it since I'm on an unsupported setup as well as out of support plan, but I would of course still be interested in a solution.

I tried Duguy's workaround, also started without any plugins, still Protools hangs upon closing the session's audio file catalog, I'd say 100%.

In case my setup doesn't show:
iMac 2019 i9, 128 GB RAM, OSX 12.7.4, ProTools Ultimate 2023.06

I've gotten so used to this that I used alt/cmd/esc to quit Pro Tools without thinking. Everything else works smoothly, so best to just forget about it.

Hi all!

I've ran through cases with similar symptom where you have to quit Pro Tools, most are compatibility issues, systems that needs optimization https://avidtech.my.salesforce-sites...ge/Optimize-12, or third party plugins. To test, rename the plugin folder and then launch the session. Close it and then try to quit PT...

Best to create a support case and forward the logs to the tech team for further investigation if still encountering this issue.
