Default right/wrong ways to replace fader caps?

I'm about to replace the stock fader caps on my C8 with new D-Command caps. I've read they have better 'grip.' I haven't pulled a stock one off yet, 'cause I'm concerned with damaging the fader machinery. This is probably much ado about nothing, and I just have to pull 'em off, but I was hoping that if someone has done this, they can give me some advice as to how to pull them off (grabbing top/bottom or sides) position of fader (top, bottom, middle, does it matter???) and then replacing...I don't want to push too hard, etc., position of fader again...

Again, I realize I may be overthinking this to the max, but it's an expensive unit, and there's knowledge around that might save me some grief.
Thanks in advance.

So I called DigiTechSupport and asked. The guy went and pulled one off, came back and told me what I expected. They slide off. Duh. I told him he had to have at least one "dumbest question of the day." He laughed and said it wasn't. I think he was probably being nice and lying....
Oh, well. Expensive gear. Didn't want to pull/push on it and wreck the fader motor.

Pull them straight up. You can pry them easily by lifting with your thumb and index finger simultaneously, from opposite sides (read: top and bottom) of each cap.

Push the replacement caps straight down.

Where did you get the D-Command fader caps? Can you order them from Digidesign? What do they cost?

Hey all,

If you want to check out a pic of the faders on my Command 8 go to my site at:

http://www.upliftedproductions.com

They were easy to replace. They just slide off when you lift. But a word of caution!! Be careful when you push the replacement caps down. Don't push too hard. If you can put something small and flat under the metal slider to hold it up while you push down. I pushed too hard on one of them, and now the fader is a little shaky. Be careful, and have fun!

Hi all,

Sorry for the delay in answering the questions about the fader caps. I ordered them from the Digistore $5 each.( I know, kinda steep for a fader cap!) I was a little hesitant about getting them at first because I felt that Digidesign should have made the Command 8 with these fader caps to begin with but hey they look m-a-r-v-e-l-o-u-s! Plus they also should have placed a shuttle wheel where the up-down -L&R control now is. But that's old news. Maybe they will make a Command 8mkll or XL version with these goodies in the near future. Digidesign are you listening??

I just replaced the caps on my C/8 and it was easy. I was a little concerned about how hard I had to push to get them seated down all the way. But everything seems to be fine and they look and feel great.
