New setup: advice please
Hi everybody,
Need your valuable opinions on this one. I'm setting up a studio with the aim to record and mix mainly percussionist from all over the world. Budget: 10.000 € +- I already have a small but accoustically isolated and treated live room and control room. This is the gear I´ve decided to go for: - G4 Dual 1,25 Combo + 512 Ram + Internal 120G ATA + 17"Monitor (2.191 €) - Digi 002R (1.228 €) - Dynaudio BM6A (1.600 €) - 1 ATH -M40 headphones 3 ATH -M30 " Powerplay Pro8000 (456 €) This the gear I have to try still: - Focusrite ISA 428 (2900 €) Mics - 2 AudioTecnica 4041 (450 €) - 1 AudioTecnica 4040 (285 €) - Pack Senheisser (679 €) Any good experience for pres and mics that can cope with transients from Djembe, Congas, Tabla, Cajón flamenco, drums etc.. I've searched about the Isa 428 and seems to be a good piece of gear. Any users? Thanks |

1 great room.
1 properly placed stereo pair. 2 channels or great pre/converter. |

Re: World Percussion mainly: advice please
RAM is so cheap. Bump that up to a Gig worth and I think you'd be much happier. Just my thoughts.
Oops, just saw the + at the end of the line. That's what I get for reading and posting this early.

Re: World Percussion mainly: advice please
Yes shareec, that's 768M wich is not too much, but I won't be using softsynths, although you're right, more ram=better.
I know its a question of taste when it comes to pres and mics. But do you guys think the Digimax 8 pres and converters are going to cut it?. I've searched a bit and there has been some posts comparing it to Octopre. For this application I don't now. I'm trying an ART Digital Mpa now but i don't quite like it. It's cheap for a dual channel tube pre w D i/o thou. I've read some good things of the SPL Gold Mic and Gain Station. Has anybody had the chance to try them? I have to try yet the Audiotecnicas 4041 (small diafragm condensers for stereo pairing) Any other choices? Thanks again |

Re: World Percussion mainly: advice please
IMHO the Octapre is a big improvement over the Presonus stuff, but it 's also more $$$
The 4041's are killer, very flat, very accurate, and super hot output, great for delicate, soft shakers. They'd make a very nice stereo pair. A-T sold matched sets of them. |

<<RAM is so cheap.>> This was in today's news: <<The price of your typical RAM chip is about to hit the roof. According to ZDNet, "The price of memory chips is rising at its fastest rate in more than four years due to an unexpected global shortage.">> If you're gonna buy, do it soon! |

Re: World Percussion mainly: advice please
I'll get it while its cheap, thanks for the advice.
Yes Where0291 the AT 4041 are very good mics for the price. I want to look at the 4050 as well. While searching for info on pres i came across this micpre comparison. Its very good info for the ears. Thought I'd share it with you http://www.thelisteningsessions.com |
