I have some sympathy because the whole area of subs / support is confusing and Avid move the goalposts twice a year. But in no world has it ever been the case that perpetual licenses will stop being perpetual.
I think it means perpetual is not perpetual with Apple constantly changing OS and a new computer only working on the latest system.

License is perpetual, support is not.

Perpetual licenses will remain perpetual, however, as stated above by JFreak, support is not. So, when Avid no longer provides support for perpetual licenses then a user’s choice is to remain on an operating system (and audio interface drivers, plugins, and any other audio software) which your version of Pro Tools works on…or give in and move to a subscription. Of course, the option to move to a new DAW also exists, either now, or sometime in the future before the Avid support for your Perpetual license is no longer supported.

We use a number of DAWs at our studio (to support client demand). Pro Tools is just one of them. We can move away in a heart-beat once a sizable number of our clients no longer request Pro Tools specifically.

What gets me is I bought a perpetual “Studio” license from my retailer last July thinking they were going to dry up. Now not only does my retailer still have perpetual Studio licenses for sale, they’ve dropped from $599 to $499. Go figure!

I don’t care about the support. I’m not planning on updating my OS anytime soon. Can anyone do a step by step on how to keep using my “Perpetual License”? I’m not being able to even open the software anymore. Sorry to be that guy but I definitely need a protools for dummies kinda thing.
Thanks !

I would like to renew ProTools Ultimate without the need to reinstate my license all over again. Can a perpetual license be downgraded to Flex does it offer the same features as Ultimate.
Having used a reinstatement code in the past do users always need a new reinstatement code if the licensee has a current support and update plan in place or just a different product.

Regards

Reinstatement is a renewal of lapsed (or nonexistent) support plan.

''Reinstatement is a renewal of lapsed (or nonexistent) support plan.''

As a current support plan user can I choose a flex plan if its more cost effective.

Flex? What are you referring to? Pro Tools Flex was an attempted rebranding of Ultimate, Avid abandoned that and went back to Pro Tools Ultimate. These are all orthogonal, you have Pro Tools products: Ultimate, Studio, Artist, and Intro. And two ways of licensing Ultimate and Studio…perpetual and subscription. Artist is subscription only, Intro is free.

You mean can you choose a subscription plan if more cost effective? You can do whatever you want with any subscription for any other version of Pro Tools, but when you stop paying the software stops working, and none of this affects your current perpetual licensing…. But if you stop renewing annual support/updates then you face potential renewal issues in future of that license. If you would be happy on a lesser product subscription I would consider selling that ultimate license. Things will only be more cost effective if you can move from Ultimate to Studio or Artist. You can do a one month subscription at any time of those products to see if they would work for you.
