Default davec test???

hi everyone - my apologies in advance for what probably is a stupid question.

i've attempted to do this test and my machine never goes in the red - i must be doing something wrong - right??

i have all tracks with the 5 plugins and i get up 40 and could probably keep going... all that really happens is around 30 the machine starts getting sluggish and by 36 or so it will take 3 or 4 minutes to reload the page with the added track.

my machine:

Inspiron 9200, Pentium M 755 (2.0GHz)
17 UltraSharp Wide Screen XGA+ Display for Inspiron 9200
1GB, DDR, 333MHz 2 Dimm,for Inspiron 9200
128MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9700, for Inspiron 9200
60GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive for Inspiron 9200
Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2, English, for Inspiron
8X DVD+/-RW Drive for Inspiron9200
CyberLink PowerDVD v5.1, Decoding Sofware for DVD Drives, for Inspiron
Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 Internal Wireless (802.11 b/g,54Mbps) for Inspiron 9200
oh yeah... chipset is 855

any ideas?

perhaps i'm just following instructions...

1) Open new PT session
2) Create a new mono audio track - this means just open it up, not record anything to it - right?
3) Add PT stock effects Compressor, 4B-EQ, Slap delay, medium delay, long delay.
4) Open the System Usage window under the Windows menu item to see the CPU utilization.
5) With your mouse select the newly created track from step 2 above.
6) Press Alt-Shift-D (to duplicate the track)
7) Record enable the track. - does this mean take it out of pause mode and start recording so that you actually see the flatline wavefrom or leave it blinking in "ready" mode?
8) Repeat step 6 until your CPU goes into the red.
9) If your CPU is in the RED delete the last track created. IF it's still in the red, delete another track until the CPU is back in the green. Click on the CPU meter after every deletion to reset the meter (see warning below). Going into the RED means your getting a -9128 message from PT.
10) Hit RECORD, and record for 60 sec. (it doesn't matter what you record as the file still get's created). If your CPU goes into the RED then delete a track and repeat step 10 until you can record 60 secs. without peaking.

bottom line... am i looking to have as many tracks as possible all recording simultaneously?

thanks
t

Yes, you want to be actually recording on all audio tracks.
