Hello. The pc side of pro tools doesnt have direct connect wich is the software allowing a soft synth to communicate and stream the audio into pro tools. I think some people have tyried other, much less ideal ways, Im not sure.
I think if you really wanna get into these soft synths you'll want logic audio so you can use vsti.
Here's some to mull over: www.kvr-vst.com

I use Retro AS-1 with PTLE and have no problems. AS-1 installs a MIDI output that PT sees. Then you just point your aux in track to the output of the AS-1.
the best synth sounds...

Really?
Wow and i have been waiting for direct connect before purchasing retro as-1. I have listened to the sounds from this synth and they are excellent. would you mind posting detailed instructions on how to make this work within pro tools?
I am slow when it comes to midi.
thanks for the info.

I can not see how this is possible without using another soundcard.

You are right, Retro AS-1 only supports ASIO, ReWire or DirectSound, none of which the 001 supports, so the above poster must be using some other sound card. For what it is worth, I use both Retro and Unity with my DAW, and I do it by using the SoundBlaster Live card, with excellent results.

Yes it is. However, it is right to say come on already.

What is this with these software limitations anyway. Every sequencer has soft synths. I am tired of having to wait 10 minutes for 100mb loading on my Yamaha A4000. I have EXS but logic always freesez. Went thru 3 MOBOs (2 of them BX) that did not change. So I can only use PT LE. Some people say do not rant you knew what you were getting but most people bought Digi001 after being told that they could use Direct I/O and Logic and sold them after problems. Vylastin is one among the many I know. I wish Digi said something like we are working on Direct connect , patch names, and others. Limitation should only be our imagination. Noone says TDM is going to sell to guys like us who has no money because of being a musican. Studios will buy TDM until we have 10 GHZ computers in 4 years.
Hmmm, that RME multiface is starting to look good.
