7.2 with a Unity
Hello All,
Has anybody got 7.2 running on a Unity system? I am working on an XP based system with either a D-Control or a D-Command, depending on suite. We have not made the move to Vsn7 yet, but I am pushing hard to get 7.2 for Post work. But our IT guys are reluctant about moving to 7.2 until someone else has tried it in a real world environment. Fair enough I guess, but we can't all sit on the fence forever! So if anybody is currently using 7.2 with a Unity I'd love to hear how it's going. Cheers, Martin |

Re: 7.2 with a Unity
Hi Martin -
We're in the same boat over here using Unity with PT 6.9.3 on an XP system (has been working great). I'm reluctant to upgrade until someone else has reported usage. I'm also waiting for 7.2 to get its code cleaned up a bit with regard to some of the reported user issues. We're hoping to implement by end of year latest, dependent on product development come that time. Keep in touch! -Christian |

Re: 7.2 with a Unity
Thanks for the reply Christian. We are currently running 6.4(!) for our D-Control suite, & 6.93 for the D-Command. Interesting to hear that you are running 6.93 without a problem, since we were told that it would not integrate well with a Unity. We have to use it since apparently it is the only vsn6 that will work with a D-Command. It crashes several times a day due to Access Viloations. D-Control with 6.4 is far less crash prone, but loses a lot of functionality. I know that another network here in Oz has made the jump to 7.1 (cs8) & found it to be very reliable. We are interested in 7.2 for all the obvious Post based reasons, but we will wait a little longer until the dust settles.
So if anybody hears of a successfully running 7.2 on a Unity... Cheers, Martin |

Re: 7.2 with a Unity
Friend of mine runs 7.1 and Unity on the show he works for. I'll ask him whether they're upgraded yet, but i wouldn't bet on it. They're on XP.

Re: 7.2 with a Unity
So far 7.2 on unity has been fine. We have 2 of our 3 rooms on 7.2. The other room is finishing a project on 7.1cs8. The only issue I have had with 7.2 is some of my video I have had to reimport. It shows up greyed out and unplayable. After reimport and a spot everything is fine. Ans the menus have changed. I was just getting used to 7.1.

Re: 7.2 with a Unity
We qualify each new release of the Windows version of Pro Tools HD with Unity MediaNetwork. You can see this info on the Digi web site under:
Support > Support & Downloads > Pro Tools HD 7.2 Win http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...d=100&eid=2579 At the bottom you can see that Pro Tools HD 7.2 for Windows is compatible with (and qualified with) Unity MediaNetwork v3.5.x, v4.0, and v4.1.1. You can also click that Avid Unity MediaNetwork link for more detailed compatibility and configuration info. Greg --------------- Greg Funk Product Manager Digidesign |

Re: 7.2 with a Unity
Anyone using an XP version of Pro Tools 6.9.x or older on Unity, I strongly suggest you upgrade to 7.1 at least, but preferrably 7.2. The performance of PT 7.1 (and 7.2) is much better than 6.9 versions and should take care of any "Access violation" errors you may be seeing in 6.x versions of Pro Tools. This was the case for several sites here in L.A., once they upgraded to 7.1 (7.2 wasn't available at the time) the Access violations disappeared. Hope this helps, Jon Connolly Digidesign Product Specialist |

Re: 7.2 with a Unity
Interesting - my access violations errors have been infrequent (I guess I'm lucky) although they have been there on occasion with 6.9.3. I'm running an HD1 system on XP SP2, Waves 5.0 Platinum, with Unity. I do find myself doing constant hard drive optimizaiton and defrag'ing (1-2x per week), maybe that's what's helping me out in the access violation areas. Saying that, it seems it's time to upgradee to 7.x!
Thanks - Christian |
