Default Upgrade PT 7 to PT 9 on New iMac ?

Quick question.
I want to buy an iMac 27 i7 and plug in my 2006 Digi 002 Rack and upgrade/crossfade to PT 9.

Is it really as easy as pluging in your Digi 002 (registered) using serial number and it will load up with no previous PT on this new comp ?

Or should I have a Techie do it for me ?

I am sure there are patches n stuff needed to get it up to snuff on the new iMac right ?

Thanks for any suggestions. I am currently on an old G4 laprop running PT LE 7 with my Digi 002 and a Lacie 7200rpm Ext HD and want to step up.

Way faster if I can do it.
Cheers.

I dont have a 02r, but can tell you this, with the mbox2pro, a new imac, and pt9, all is well. and the imac is a great machine for pt..

yes you need the 02 driver for pt9. yes the complete install is the best way to upgrade...

one caveat, the fire wire chain on imac is picky, what works for me and others here.

imac>digi interface"your 02r">oxford chipset hard drive at the end of the chain for a projects drive, many use owc drives. other ways of doing this just don't work so well.

avid has come a long way, you can buy a computer and a operating system thats available and current. and run pt,....was not always like this..

just two cents from a dude rocking pt9 on an imac...

Awesome Thanks.

I suppose my old Lacie Ext 7200rpm HD may need to be replaced?.

I would love to do this myself.

Appreciate the info. How much internal mem do you have? I thought the basic 4 is not enough, true ? I guess with 8 I would be safe for plug ins ? Would be sad if it chugged on my 20 tracks of real audio recorded. I use Izotope Ozone to master.

Cheers.

Also, if anyone has a suggestion on what specs to order on a 27 iMac feel free.

I was going to get the highest/fastest processor with the i7.

I believe it is a quad.

Internal mem is 4 should be 8 ? (they offer 2 types of 8).

(So many variables since my old 17 G4 powerbook w 2G internal eh ?)

Thanks, I want to buy the best iMac 27 for Pro Tools 9 basically.
Cheers again.

If you're going to get the 27" Imac, definitely go for the I7 upgrade. For only $200 extra, it's a significant upgrade in power.

As for ram, you're money will go further if you get it from Macsales.com.

If you end up getting new modules, you can trade in the stock ones that come with the Imac.

However, being that the new Macbook Pros were just released, I would hold off a little if you can. It's very likely that new Imacs are coming very soon.

I would expect that the pricing would be similar, just like the new Macbooks were similar.

One of the reasons I think new Imacs and Mac Pros will be soon, is because they will want to differentiate the product lines again. With these new Macbooks, the processing of the higher end ones are on par with the highend Imac and low end Mac Pro. They won't want to keep it that way for long.
