Default Most stable PT Native system for OS 10.6.7?

Hi. I'm putting together a system for location-recording and am obviously wanting a very stable system. It seems, from what I've read, that PT 9.0.3 would be the best for Native on a 2008 2.8GHz. MacPro running OS 10.6.7. Is this correct? I would also be using 192 expanded interfaces (2, possibly 3 of these and a Sync I/O or Sync HD). Also, I will only be running the standard Digirack plugins, if any at all, on this rig and will be taking sessions back to my studio which runs PT 8.03cs2 for mixing. Any comments on this would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

What are you recording? Are you syncing to video? What will u use for pre's? Reason I ask is that if you are not going to be bringing in high quality pres... I would use Presonus D 8's or something similar.
Had great results with those. And a lot easier to transport than my 192's and racks of 500's.. PT 9... 32 tracks.. under 3k. SB

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm not sure about the video issue, but I wanted to be prepared so that's the reason for the Sync I/O part. I have already purchased 3-D8s, a Digimax LT, Octopre II, and have several Mackie Onyx 800r pres available. My original plan is to use three D8s analog into the two 192s (each with 16 analog ins) to use the 192s' converters. Then I would take the digital outs of the D8s and go to Alesis HD24XRs as backup machines. Many possibilites here, I guess. BTW, what are you using for your interface and what version of PT?

Please understand that this is just my opinion, based on my needs and experiences..

Using the D'8 pres to go into the 192 is a possible waste of space and weight.
In my experience the pre is the "facecard" (think poker).. and the convertors, in this case, are 7 (D8) and 9 (192)... nothing is a "low" deuce..
Mind you that the D8 is a very good all around unit.. and if you are not going to be using high quality pre's, just go with the D8 thru an ADAT Fire Studio lightpipe.
I used used 3 D8s, one Digimax FS (8 analog outs as well) PT9, and a macbook-pro.. 32 tracks thru FW.. NO issues. Largest project was 10 shows, 10 cities, 10 days, 240v... half bus, half airplanes. D8s in one 5 space rack, splitters in another, and cabling in one big bag. Using Planet waves modular cables.. with breakouts for almost any situation. (in full disclosure, i endorse most of these products.. but i bought and used their products well BEFORE I signed..;-)
Spend some money on good splitters... although I can't hear much difference, when the in house sound guys see a nice splitter they are much more amenable to making things easy for you. I did not realize how important this was until... it was important.

I did not use any backup.... only because of weight and airline issues. I had some issues, but they got worked out at soundchecks..

Your system will work great with the 192's and HD... but it will be bulky, heavy, and FRAGILE.. be careful. I would not fly with it, no matter what case they are in. SB

PS BTW,,, the tracks from that tour came out GREAT.. they sound excellent, and I would bet the farm that no one is going to hear them and say hmmmm... converters.. ;-) Leave me an email andI will send a sample of what they sound like.. .

Well, BB, the good part is that is that the equipment will only be transported by me in my vehicle locally. No plane transportation involved. The bad part is that it will be transported by me. After a couple of times I may join you with the lighter setup. The other bad part is that I've already got the Native card so if I go firewire the card will be somewhat useless. BTW, are you getting your monitor by routing PT to the digital out on the Mac and then to a headphone amp? Now I have the Presonus HP4 that would be fed from outputs 1&2 from the first 192.

Well, I love my HD Native system, but I don't entirely trust it. I'm not sure I'd be happy using it for live recordings.

Well, I would tend to agree with you especially if I was using plugins, but I don't plan on using them to just get the raw tracks. Also, I will be setting up a couple of test sessions just letting it record non-stop for about 3 or 4 hours with 40 tracks recording. Just for grins I might even through in a few plugs. Hopefully, that will tell me if I've got a good system. Yeah, I know, famous last words. :)
