Default New MusicXPC

Man they are after me now. LOL
I like the footprint of this computer and it probably is really quiet looking at the cooling design. Can get a softcase for transporting which I really like. Not made for 001, but should work for 002 and 003 with the Intel 845GE chipset. About $600.00 overpriced, but still much cheaper than the Mac. Available at SamAsh now.

Why wouldn't it work for the 001?

And there's a 003 now? Do you think digi has to stop before they hit 007 for licencing issues?

Appears to be a Shuttle SB51 case, which goes for $289 with MB, built in video, Lan, USB2.0, 1394. Add about $500 for CPU (2.53), ram (512 PC2700), drives (2x80G 7200), CDR. Total would be about $800. Add mouse, keyboard and an XP Home license and it's up to about $1000.

Last Shuttle I saw wasn't very quiet at all, but maybe it wasn't the same model. I'll have to check one of these out.

I'd be a little concerned about running 2 7200rpm drives in such a small case with such feeble ventilation...

Just read all of the MusicXPC site, verifying that it's the Shuttle... and found the price on the Sam Ash site. $1600, confirming your 'about $600 overpriced'.

I'll probably build one next week.

Carl - how did you determine they were incompatible, by testing? I read so many bits on this thing today, I don't remember where, but I think I saw that it uses a VIA chip for FireWire support. So do several of the approved PCI 1394 cards.

I'm an 002 user, so FireWire is critically important to me, too.

Just got back from trying to buy one of these, they are discontinued at the local Fry's computer superstore. I have other sources, there are some advantages to living in Silicon Valley.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">There not that quite actually, certainly not nearly quiet enough for a studio situation. And no where near as silent as a Carillon.

My only question is the firewire spec. I was looking at the Shuttle XPCs for my machine and they were incompatible.

On the left it says that you have one AGP slot and one PCI-slot...
