Default 2560 x 1080 Resolution for PT/Windows 11?

Hey guys,

I just bought a 1913900k (not yet installed) for use with Windows 11 and PT 2022.12. I was thinking of purchasing a 2560 x 1080 res wide-screen monitor to replace the two 23" monitors I'm currently using. Will it work well? Will both the edit and mixer windows show correctly and comfortably without useless extra space on the sides? I currently don't use a dedicated graphics card; I use the processor graphics for video. Thanks in advance for any useful insight.

I can't answer your question directly, but I have a very wide 32:9 monitor (49" corner to corner, which is about 45" x 13") and resolution is 5120x1440. That makes everything too small, so I have to use 3840x1080. And 1080 is not enough pixels high to get everything that I want to see in a PT mixer on the screen.

So I wish I'd bought something physically taller than 13" with more than 1080 pixels.

My point is - it's not just the resolution, but the size of the screen that matters, especially once you start needing reading glasses.

You should be ok. As far as "useless extra space on the sides", for me, I use a 43" plus two 23's. So I don't care much about a bit of extra border. Not saying I like it, just saying it is not an issue for me.

Hey Dominic, thanks for your response. What is it that you don't see in the mixer? Do you have to scroll to see the entire height?

Thanks EGS. Just curious, how do you use your 3 monitors?

Have you considered a 65" 4K TV ? As long as you can drive it at 60Hz its pretty good. I mounted mine on the studio wall. I went with LG. It's like 2 stacked ultrawide monitors. And you can adjust the scaling in Win 11 so that you can see details from anywhere in the studio depending on where you are working.

Thanks ejinbc. Can you post a screenshot for me to see what PT looks like on your monitor?

Yes, exactly that. I want to see
Mic Pres (I have a Carbon)
HEAT
Inserts A-E
Sends A-E
EQ Curve
Meters and Faders
I/O
Delay Compensation
Track Color
Comments

and it's just too much. I have to scroll or uncheck 2 or 3 of the options to keep it all on-screen.

That could be terribly inconvenient.

43" in the center = Pro Tools Edit window. This tends to keep my ears centered in the sweet spot between monitor speakers. I usually face the edit screen, so when I work at studios with only 2 screens, I skew my ears to one side... It's better with the Edit Screen dead center. My opinion.

23" to the right - Mix

23" to the left - plugs/video/misc

I run all 3 @ 1080P. Works!
