Music production setup
Hey I'm new to forms sry if I posted in wrong area. My question is this. I'm trying to build a new comp for producing music beats n etc going all out and use the comp for recording and all. Should I use a comp based on the i7 2600k or use the new sb e set up? I kno production reqs alot of CPU n ram power. So would I c a big diff going i73930k or the 4core CPU vs getting a 2600k? X79 = 4 channel ram with up to 8 slots vs duel channel ram with the z68.

Re: Music production setup
I don't think it's going to make a huge difference. I use an i5 2500 and 6GB ram and haven't hit a wall yet..I don't do huge orchestral compositions either, though - but I do some pretty plugin/vi/track heavy mixes

Re: Music production setup
Rly? I thought kuzz music takes alot of ram power that the quad channel ram would make it 50% better? The old gen uses dual channel ram so quad is dibble that.

Re: Music production setup
I mean it could make a difference but honestly I have stock ram ..stock everything except my hard drives and I have no issues. One area where it might make a huge difference is with that new playback from ram or whatever feature if you have HD or the toolkit and 10

Re: Music production setup
Would love to see a Sandra report on your i5, and some notes on your BIOS settings. I can't get good performance out of mine, which is i5 2500K(not overclocked), Asus P8P67, 8GB of Kingston DDR3 1600 and either a GeForce 210 or ATI 5480 graphics card(with either Windows generic driver, or latest from each company)

Re: Music production setup
Sure I'll try to remember when I get home - but I literally only customized the hardware specs on HP.com, added an internal a usb external for data storage and did the tweaks avid/digi recommends for win7 systems and that's it. I haven't changed anything in the bios, added special performance memory or anything like that and the vid card is a cheap nvidia ?400 that barely runs bf3 smoothly in 640 lol

Re: Music production setup
Regarding the Sandra, what are these 2 drives doing?
WDC WD10TMVW-11ZSMS0 (1TB, USB3/SATA300, 5200rpm, 8MB Cache) : 931GB (N:) WDC WD5000BMVV-11GNWS0 (499.4GB, USB2/SATA300, 2.5", 5400rpm, 8MB Cache) : 465GB (L:) both are too slow for recording with good performance(but are fine for backups and archives). Also, what interface are you using? My i5/Asus setup also has a VIA firewire and it doesn't work at all with Pro Tools9 and my 003(added a Siig card with a TI chipset and that runs fine). Have you tried the Dverb2 test yet? Curious on your numbers(see the first page of the i7 thread for details on the test). Its really a basic system check and gives you a benchmark that you can compare over time to see if your system performance remains consistent.

Re: Music production setup
Yeah both backups and using a profire 2626 - never tried the dverb test - not going to be shattering any boundaries with a stock i5 lol
