Anyone using Tiger and 6.9.3 on a Quicksilver 733?
I know this is not a tested or recommended configuration, but I'm still wanting to keep my FCP/Motion rig (G5 Dual 2.5) and my PT HD2 audio rig (QS733, 1.125gb) separate.
Any experience with this configuration? Thoughts? If you're running on PT on a QS733, what Mac OS and PT 6.x.x you are running without "trouble?"

Re: Anyone using Tiger and 6.9.3 on a Quicksilver 733?
Running on this config with a single 933 and Tiger very happily in fact a client commented yesterday that the session for the last week (no crashes or problems tracking for a band) was the best he had ever experienced in a studio. I use 10,000 rpm SCSI drives and the dual channel scsi card with a lot of ram and keep the drives empty and re formatted for each job. I recycle the drive after they have been archived and we have one set of drives per job on removable bays. Headroom headroom headroom should be the mantra for the modern studio, my system is hardly stressed even when recording 48/24 bit audio to 48 tracks, so it works very well when working with less. The g4's are still a very viable computer (as long as you are not doing too much softsynth RTAS work then you will need a faster machine otherwise my experience is that this will work very well for a reliable Pro Tools system.

Re: Anyone using Tiger and 6.9.3 on a Quicksilver 733?
Simon, I have the exact same computer.
I also use a dual SCSI card, but am having lots of problems. What card do you use? If ATTO, how do you find it running in Tiger without ATTO's own drivers? ANY tips on SCSI? (please help a frustrated brother out.. ) Best regards, ruudman |

Thanks above...sounds like a go, heh.
Anyone else using a Quicksilver and current system and PTHD software with good results?

Re: Anyone using Tiger and 6.9.2 on a Quicksilver
I run a Quicksilver 800 with a PowerLogix dual 1.33 card, 1.5 gig ram, OS 10.3.9 with QT 6, and ProTools 6.9.1cs3 with a Magma 32bit chassis (HD7).
The system will crash, but in general is very usable. I will be going to Tiger with PT7. If the computer doesn't work out I'll get something newer. STeve

I use the UL3D and the atto drivers from the website, the drives are seagate 10,000 rpm. I format the drives with apple's disk utility, and I use the settings for the UL3D described in Digidesign's literature re the atto card. hope this helps. S, |
