Unable to Locate Hardware
I've installed and updated everything.
Uninstalled, unplugged, reinstalled and re plugged. I'm getting the message; "Unable to Locate M-Audio Hardware. Make sure your hardware is plugged in and turned on." I've seen a few solutions for other versions of PT's and other OS, but none of them have led me in the right direction. I'm considering calling AVID directly, but they no longer offer support for products this old. Help? |

Re: Unable to Locate Hardware
If you haven't tried it already, go to control panel, and select "sound". Make sure that the Fast Track Solo is not selected as the Windows default sound device under both the Recording and Playback tabs. If it is, Windows grabs the Fast Track for itself denying PT access. Remember, system sounds and audio from the internet will not play through your Fast Track with this configuration.
I see that you are using 8MP. Have you installed the free 8.05 update for Win7?

Re: Unable to Locate Hardware
If that doesn't work hold down the "N" key when launching PT and choose your interface when the window pops up.

Re: Unable to Locate Hardware
Thank you for replying!
Wizzoboy I went through the control panel and made sure the fast track was not the default device. On both tabs, but nothing changed. I was waiting until I updated, but I figure nothing could make things worse at this point, so I Downloaded the update. But when I tried the updater it says "Cannot locate a valid Pro Tool's installation on my system." Southsidemusic I wasn't able to get any menu to open up during the loading of PT's. The program makes it to DAE loaded and cuts out unable to locate the device. Might it be after that point?

Re: Unable to Locate Hardware
That would seem to indicate an installation problem. On what drive have you installed PT?
I used to use PT8 MP under Win 7 Ultimate with no problems so there is definitely something amiss.

Re: Unable to Locate Hardware
Your interface is USB right? Check Windows Control Panel and make sure your USB ports are not set to power down. Windows has a nasty thing of defaulting the ports to power down to save power which is a holdover from laptop usage to save battery power. Also make sure your interface is plugged into the same one that it was connected to when you installed it and drivers the first time. Another nasty Windows habit in that it may not recognize a peripheral if you move it to another port (the 'universal' in USB isn't always so).

Re: Unable to Locate Hardware
I do not post here much, but musicman691, you are my hero. I have a Mackie DL32R that was working brilliantly, then "all of a sudden" one day PT refused to see it on start up. I would have to pull the USB out and put it back in to re-awaken the USB. I never even considered the Windows power-down USB as a cause. THANK YOU!
Soon as I disabled power down of the USB for this particular USB Hub, the Mackie has no trouble being discovered. I am posting because so many others just ask questions and never bother to come back to offer the answers :) Hopefully this helps someone else who's been scratching their head for months. Jc
