Default Audio drivers all of a sudden not working!

Hey all,

The story: When I returned home after a month on the road, hooked my Mbox 2 back up to my computer, and fired up Ableton Live 7 to do some demoing, I ran into a surprise error message: the ASIO Digidesign drivers had been "corrupted" somehow and the program defaulted to "No audio driver." Figuring there must be some sort of mistake, I went to "Preferences" and changed the setting from "No audio driver" to "ASIO Digidesign Driver". Instead of switching to the proper driver, the program froze.

I spent the next several hours uninstalling and reinstalling things in different configurations. I uninstalled Ableton and the Digidesign drivers, then I restarted the computer, reinstalled the drivers, restarted the computer again, and reinstalled Ableton. The computer seemed to be having trouble reading the Mbox 2 with the Standalone Driver installation I'd used, so I uninstalled everything again and reinstalled ProTools LE, which I don't ever really use for anything, thinking it might have something important to the Mbox 2's functionality in its installation. The installation went off fine until it got to the "Installing hardware drivers" section, then it idled for over two hours (the Mbox 2 was plugged in, so it wasn't that) and eventually I got the Blue Screen of Death.

When the computer restarted, there was a corrupted version of ProTools LE on my desktop and the Digidesign ASIO drivers STILL weren't operational. When I opened Ableton and tried to set them up, it froze the program just as it had before. When I opened Adobe Audition 2.0 and tried to configure them there, the program couldn't even read them. Does anyone have any suggestions as to my next move? What can I do to fix this?

Thanks,
Ryan

You might want to try using the Pro Tools Uninstaller Utility and then re-installing.

Gave this a try. No luck. It's looking more and more like it's an issue with the hardware. Argh.
