Question connecting the Mackie Control to 003

I'm trying to get my 003 rack running 8.0.1 to work with the Mackie Control Universal Pro. The faders have yet to snap and all it gives me is the "Pro Tools is unable to communicate with HUI..." error message. "MCU Pro USB v3.0, Port 1-4" shows up in Peripherals/MIDI Controllers and I've set them all and none work. Maybe the Mackie isn't cleared for the .1 update? Any thoughts would be appreciated :)

I also encountered this one with my setup (MCU + 003). But after some tweaking (hooking the midi cables of MCU directly to the 003's Midi i/o instead of connecting it to my M-Audio Midisport 4x4), it was finally recognized by PT8.0.1.

Also try setting the peripherals to "none" and then restarting 003 and setting the peripherals all over again with your MCU.

I'm not seeing how to connect through MIDI cables. On the back of the mackie there's the MIDI ports used by my 2 extenders and the C4, but none others. There is however the "external control" port thats a TRS connection, but I can't figure where the in would be on the 003.

What version firmware is in the Mackie's?
v2.12 is needed for HUI emulation.

You are definitely in HUI mode on the Mackies, right? (hold down the select buttons on channels 1 & 2 on each Mackie as you power them up, and press one of the rotary controllers with HUI in the LED to confirm.

I have an old Mackie Control with one Extender and they work fine. I had to upgrade the eprom chip in the MC to 2.12 though. The Extender was fine.

The Mackies running HUI are a compromise though, giving the chance of multiple banks of Extender faders, but with less functionality than a Command|8 which can't be more than 8 faders at a time.

Good luck.

The mackie has firmware version 3.0.0. I've read in other threads that version 2.1.2 is necessary for PT 7.4 and above, but shouldn't v3 cover that? Also, what should be my settings under Peripherals-Machine control? Thanks so much for your help by the way

GOOD NEWS! Got the error message to stop! They work great!!! :)

P.S. How do you switch the C4 to HUI mode?

Thanks, and God bless the DUC

If you are using the MCU Pro in multiple DAW's, then you'll have to live with some limitations in Protools. If Protools is your DAW and you see yourself doing the majority of your work in Protools, then dump the MCU Pro and get a 003 Console and get rid of your 002, it has the very best control of Protools than anything else out their price range. If you don't want to go that route, then a Command 8 is the better option. I tried and hated the MCU Pro with Protools. But that's me.

I am having the same issue. First gen MCU, with 2 extenders (all on version 2.1.2), Motu midi express XT, 002 Rack, etc. It worked fine for me when i was on PT LE 7.4 and win XP 32 bit. I have recently upgraded to Win 7 32 bit and PT LE 8.01 and started getting the same message. It works for the first 7 seconds and then the message pops up.. Unable to communicate with HUI... I can then hit enter and it will work for another 7 seconds, which tells me its probably not getting that midi signal back? Have you fixed this or have any leads?
