Default PT10 Language

The language of PT10 changes automatically according to the language of OSX.
This is a huge bummer, for all my Quickeys don't work anymore, since they are based on the entries in the menu lists, which are german now.
I don't want to change the language of my whole system, I only want PT to be in english, as it always has been.
I understand that Windows users have a simple dropdown menu in the PT settings, were they can choose their language. Why isn't this the case for Mac users as well?
Could you please implement this in the next update?

Right-click on the Pro Tools application icon to open package, open Resource, get rid of the various language .lproj except english, and you are done.

Thanks for your approach.
I closed PT, deleted all .lproj-folders, except "en.lproj", relaunched, but PT is still german.

Did you move those .lproj to the trash ???? (could be PT has em cached or still is referencing them in the trash if you did not empty trash)

IF you did, try this in addition...

Delete ALL your protools preferences

in a Finder window hit this short cut

shift+command+G in the path type (you can copy and paste my line below

~/Library/Caches

delete the folder 'com.digidesign.ProTools'

repair disk permissions and reboot Mac..

In addition in the protools prefs... Make sure you dont have Auto Switch Input Language turned on

I followed your instructions - and still no change.
Where exactly do I find "Auto Switch Input Language"? This is the only thing I couldn't check, since I didn't find it.
Thanks for your help and cheers from Frankfurt!

I use PT for 12 years in english now and i so far i don't like it in german. Some entries don't fit into their spaces (f.e. In the plugin buttons on top) and some menu entries sound a bit odd to me (in my own native language - german) like "identify beat" is "Schlag identifizieren"!!! That's like using Barbelfish for translation.

I'd like to have an english PT in a german OSX! Wavelab can be set to english in a german OSX

Same here. In Cubase 6 it's just an option in the preferences.

I deleted all other languages than english and like clausiii I only get the menus in english.

At least it keeps all my quickeys shortcuts running.

But Avid please why is it only a windows only option ?......

Hi,

There is really just a misunderstanding (or mis-documentation) about how localization works on OSX.

When any application launches in OSX, it looks at the System Preferences "Language and Text" settings to see what the priority language is (English vs. German in this case). If the application supports the top priority language, it displays that language. If not, it displays the next supported priority language.

What the you need to do to run their OS or other apps in German and Pro Tools in English is…

First…

Set the System Preferences "Language and Text" to German.
Log off and log back onto their system.
Now their OS should be German.

Second…

Set the System Preferences "Language and Text" to English.
Launch Pro Tools.
Now their Pro Tools will be in English.

I expect there might be some scripts or helper apps to switch the language automatically.

Here's some more information on localization support for OS X.

That's untrue. After that, the OS and every application (like mail for example) are english, not only ProTools.
