upgrade from PT LE 7 to ????????

Hi, a long time PT LE user,

i have a 002r + protools LE 7.xx + music production toolkit v.1



i was very happy with my system. My computer recently died, so i need
to buy a new machine.

I would install windows Xp and just reinstall my current protools but Win Xp is becoming harder to find and obsolete, so i might have to do the jump to Window 7........


issue i have is my version ain't compatible with WIN 7, so i might need to upgrade my protools.....


i saw on the Avid site, the earliest version compatible with WIN 7 is PT 8.0.4.


I do not want to jump to PT 10.. i would like to know what is my cheapest option ??? is there a way i can still upgrade to PT 8 ?? or crossgrade to PT 9 to be able to work on WIn 7 ??

Officially, the cheapest option is to upgrade to PT10 for $399. Anything earlier is discontinued and not available through Avid or any authorized Avid dealer.

However, you may be able to still find some copies on Ebay, which is your best bet.

The cheapest option is to run 8.0.5 on Windows 7 64 bit(8 should be cheap these days). Next option would be to buy PT9, which should be a bargain since the release of 10. Even 10 will(SHOULD) work with the old 002(but 11 is not likely to when it comes out, but I suspect its at least 6 months away, and you don't have to upgrade to it anyway). In any case, if you buy a version of 8, make sure you get the authorization code, and you might want to go download the 8.0.5 update right now, so you have it ready(the code SHOULD authorize any variation of LE 8).

nts7 : are you sure it would be 399$ for the PT LE 10 upgrade?? i've looked around a little and it seems it's much more expensive ?? i only found upgrades from PT 9 and they were much more expensive than that ?? ( i have yet to contact my Avid dealer)

Yes, through the online Avid store or through a dealer it's $399 to upgrade from any version of LE. It's based on the serial number of your LE hardware interface, and it's a full installer, so no need to already have PT7 already installed on your computer.

Also, keep in mind the Music Toolkit is no longer valid, because the functionality is now built into Protools, so don't try to install that.

The plugins that came with the Toolkit are still valid, and you can download the installers for those from the Avid website.

Also, if you're into guitar playing, the Eleven Rack is on special right now for $699, and it comes with PT10. So for $300 more you get an Eleven Rack thrown in with PT10, plus a few more plugins once you register everything.
