Default magma chassis questions

I'd like to use a Magma expansion chassis to host my pci-x hd3. (The reason being, my computer died, the hd is fine but I had to get a new cpu, and there's nothing with pci-x anymore).

So, if I may, a few questions:

1. I'd heard there is an issue that renders the older 7-slot expansion chassis useless for pt9. What is is this issue exactly? Does it apply to the 64-bit version as well?

2. I notibe the pe6r4 is the only one with a x8 pciE host. Is this significant?

3. What if I want to connect this whole system into a laptop, can it be done?

Thanks!

It's no supported but I use a p7r464 chassis to host my hd 4 accel and it works really well. Major advantages would be expandable to hd 7 and future proof due to you only need one pci slot to run it.

Are you using the third card in the 32-bit slot?

If you search on ebay, you can find an Gigabyte GA-H55-USB3 rev 2.0 with 3 PCI slots / 4 PCI-E slots and it works fine in my set up with an older cream colored Avid PCI 7 slot expansion chassis. I bought this mobo cause I read on a Hackintosh forum that it work excellent for that purpose as well as the three PCI slots would work without flaws in an HD3 set up without an expansion chassis (even though I use an expansion chassis it fired up the first time I installed PT HD, I had problems with other mobo and issues when I installed more then 1 UAD2 card in the mobo) All I can say is it made PT HD life alot easier for me compared to the headaches I went through with 2 other mobo's.

I wrote a little bit about it here http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=308593 ...I'm glad I bought it now.

I currently run windows 7 64 bit but I've also used osx 10.6.2 with this system. Both seem to work very well.

Im running a PT HD2 rig in a Magma PCI7RX. I have an i7 2600K on an Asus P8Q67-M. The Magma PCI host card is sitting on the 2nd PCI slot on the mobo. The OS is Windows 7 x64, PT is 8.1.1 HD. Everything is running like a charm. I only had to replace the PSU and all fans of the Magma chassis as it was a way to noisy.

Oh I forgot, I had to put PT Cards in different order, which means Accel Card on the first slot (right after the Magma controller card), then the Core Card.

That's good to hear. Could you do me a favor and push your HD2 card to max (Voices and Plugins) or close to it and tell me what is your PCI % in the usage window so I can try to compare something against what's happening in my system....thanks.
