<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Oh yeah. Tridents, Neotek, Amek, MCI, D&R etc. I'm not a big fan of mixing inside PT or any DAW for that matter. I much perfer having real knobs and being able to use real outboard gear without latency problems. If you've got 20 large you can get a nice console.

For me part of working on analog isn't just about the sound. It's about speed and the way I prefer to work. Some people like working in a box with a control surface. I don't, it slows me way down. Having said that, I'll keep using 2" and half-tracks until tape is no-longer made or clients can't afford it anymore.

I think the both of you answered one big question for me.

I dont think I need a console.

1. I am not used to working on one, so Im not used to the sound of it either.

2. I am used to mixing in the box, I have become familiar and comfortable with it.

I would however like to try mixing to a high quality summing buss.
Or work harder at trying to get my mixes sounding better in the box.

Thanks Guys

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">You might not need a console but don't knock it until you've tried it. Mixing on a Wackie or something equally cheap isn't an improvement over the box summing or routing. But, it may or may not open some doors for you. I just mixed a project with about 30-40 tracks per song in a rented TDM rig. I was submixing in the box and splitting out to 16 outs which got additional EQ and processing on the Trident here. The cleints loved the sound and it was way beyond what they could've achevied at home mixing in the box. Partly due to me, partly because of the tools. So yeah, if you can try to mix a few songs on a console before you totally write it off. If your serious about being an AE you owe it to yourself.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">And this fine sir is definately "thinking in the box"! I doubt your mixes will ever achieve their "best" in a PT rig! Like Jay said, even a cheaper Mackie can offer some great benefits that PT won't!
