Default Mbox Line Inputs attached to Focusrite circuitry?

Is it true that those of us with high quality outboard preamps like Neves have to squash our high quality signals through the cheap Focusrite Preamps in the Mbox if we want to get our sounds into the Pro Tools domain?

Aren't line inputs supposed to connect directly to A/D convertors?
