Default Parallel compression without using groups

I use a D-Show in 24 buss configuration because I also need to mix monitors at FOH position. Is there a way to use auxes and matrix for parallel compression? I haven't figured out a way to route auxes or matrix to an input channel if that's even possible.

I don't think it can be done in any sort of "soft" patch method, but one thing you could do is route the matrix/aux out to an AES channel, and route the input to an AES input channel, and run an AES jumper cable in the local rack from AES out to AES in.
I do this regularly in my touring monitor setups for a couple different applications. Might not be the most elegant solution in the world, but its easy and there is no A/D or D/A conversion.

Thanks Brent. That is a good idea. I'll give it a shot.

You will probably have phasing issues, cause groups are compensated but inputs are not.

You can route the output of a group or matrix to something like a "Trim" plug-in, and output that to a channel... But like another poster said, you may encounter phase issues... If you route all you groups through an alignment channel, might that correct it? Not sure...

Or... If you have a plug-in compressor that can do a wet-dry mix, such as Waves H-Comp, you could output your aux to that plug-in and do it there...

Or... In variable group mode, are the groups compensated? Could you just do the alignment channel and use the var-groups as group outputs still? I'm not near a desk at the moment, but you could output the groups to a matrix/pq and use that to drive the PA...

It's late... Some of that info may not be correct/coherent...

Someone can verify or suggest something else. But I think it should be totally doable.

Jason

The console is setup to where if you want to do parallel compression, Groups is the best avenue to take. If you could somehow migrate everything that needs compression to groups, that would be the best option. I know this can be time consuming, but I too recently had to move auxes and groups around in order to compensate for some changes we had made. If this is not an option, I would think the next best thing would be to send an Aux through the AES outs back to a processing channel...perhaps on the FX layer, if you have some to spare (the console supports up to 16)...that way you aren't eating up an input. Then you can add Plug-Ins or use the built in compressor or whatever your needs are.

Hope this helps, bud.
