Default Playing Virtual Instruments

I am new to using Pro Tools and I have a question for anyone who can answer this...how can I get my Roland Fantom X6 to play the virtual instruments in Pro Tools?

1. Run a MIDI cable from the Fantom to a MIDI In on your PT interface
2. Make a new device for it in Setup/MIDI/MIDI Studio
3. Make an Instrument track
4. Place a virtual inst plug-in in one of the inserts (customarily the first insert)
5. Make sure the track is highlighted or in record

Should the MIDI cable from the Fantom be in MIDI Out?

Regarding the hookup part:

Fairly simple, just install the fantom midi driver into your computer and hook up your Fantom X6 to the computer via USB.

This is how my Fantom X8 works....

Out the phantom into the ???...dnt know which interface u have...& actually u dont necessarily have to setup a new device in Midi setup unless u want to & when u create the instrument track just make sure that u have the "Instrument" view on so u can see it @ the top of the mix window & that the top says "ALL" & the next tab shows the name of the VI ur using...also in "options" make "MIDI THRU" is checked...

Sorry, didn't know you already had it hooked up to the computer. Was going for dead simple. I'll let someone who has a USB connected MIDI controller take it from here.
