ProControl + plugins = crash!?

Anybody having problems with the ProControl and plugins? I have this problem where once or twice a day I'll use the ProControl to select a plugin (usually Waves) and ProTools will fold up and quit, sometimes leaving DAE hanging open, sometimes not. Most of the time it happens when the system has to not only make the plug in active but also display it on the screen. This has been going on for months. It happened on my old Beige G3 300 and still happens after upgrading to a 466 G4 and reloading all of the software from scratch.

466 G4 512M ram
ProTools Mix Plus w/ 2 more cards
Magma Expansion chassis
ProControl w/ extra fader pak
ProTools 5.1.1
Waves Gold bundle 3.0 + a million more current versions of plugins
Mac OS 9.1

Any ideas? Digi tech support is stumped...
