Yes, it’s an odd (legacy) quirk.

Please count me among those who wish for this to finally be rectified.

And while on the subject…

How about making it possible to jump to the pan box(es) and/or fader level on adjacent tracks with a keyboard shortcut, in similar fashion to what has been possible with track names for a very long time (Command + Left/Right Arrow)
