Default Upgrading from PT perpetual Studio with PT Intro installed?

Hello

Whilst I was deciding if I should upgrade the lapsed perpetual license I downloaded Protools Intro to test it on a silicon Mac. Once I buy the perpetual upgrade will I have to uninstall Protools Intro prior to installing or will it all be dealt with automatically by the iLok manager?

thank you for your help.

Have no idea on this part of your original question.

But since you have a lapsed plan (your original question) you need to buy a reinstatement license.
Not the annual upgrade/support license. You have to have a currently active support plan to use the annual upgrade/support license.

The way it works is PT is one install for all tiers. When you launch PT, it will look for active licences, and set the features available according to which license it finds. If there are no licenses found, then you will get the Intro tier, with it's track number limitations etc.

So you already have ultimate, studio, artist, and intro installed.

I hate to resurrect an old thread, but does that mean I should go to iLok and "Deactivate" the intro licenses before starting PT? Or is it smart enough to find the highest tier license and work from that?

Hi there Bill0287

Pro Tools Intro installers are the same as regular PT installers. The best way to deal with ensuring you run the product you bought is to find the license for it (eg. Pro Tools Artist/Studio/Ultimate) and activate it immediately before launching Pro Tools. Otherwise, the license activation prompt when Pro Tools is launched will find any valid license it can get its hands on. In this case, it's possible that the Pro Tools Intro license will be activated because the paid Pro Tools license still need a refresh on the local machine.

Thank you.

So should I "deactivate" the Intro license first and make sure the higher level license is active, and then start Pro Tools?

Hi Bill0287,

I suggest deactivating Pro Tools Intro license to make sure that your Pro Tools will be authorized with the paid tier license.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can help.
