Default External sync for mixing only?

Hi folks-

I'm putting together a wish list for a ProTools system that will be used primarily for mixing & editing, and the occasional overdub.

I'm thinking about using a 1622 for FX returns & monitoring, and an Apogee 2 ch. converter for A/D & D/A (if I decide to print to 1/2"...)

My question is, does an external clock like the nanosync improve the quality of PT in a mixing environment, or just in a tracking / transferring / A/D environment.

Thanks for your help,

jon
