HDX Driver No Longer Shows after 2021.10 Install

I’m so sorry I can’t remember, I though it was strange because it appeared as a down load. Perhaps it was with the software ware upgrade and not the driver. I will try and look it up. But, I new it was in one of the download packages. Thought the driver but perhaps the new PT upgrade.

I think I solved it!!!!

This is what I did to get it all working again. It had nothing to do with having to reset firmware on my HDX card.

So I had both 2021.7 and 2021.10 installed on my computer (which is totally fine to do). So I followed this order to get the HDX card to show up on bootup. I used both installers.

This is probably not the only solution. But this is what fixed it for me. The whole time I constantly checked "Security and Privacy Settings to make sure "Avid Technology Inc - Updated" would show and be accepted if needed.

1. I opened the 2021.7 installer and went to the driver folder and ran the uninstall script there. - Restarted computer-

2. I went to the applications folder and trashed both, my Pro Tools 2021.10 and 2021.7.

3. I ran the 2021.7 Driver installer inside the "Pro_Tools_2021.7.0_Mac.dmg" - Restart

4. I installed Pro Tools 2021.7. - Restart - At this point, the driver was showing up again in my system after rebooting.

(likely not necessary, but at this point, I ran a DigiTest to see the results, I still had the same fails as I had prior)

5. I installed the Pro Tools 2021.10 Driver in the "Pro_Tools_2021.10.0_Mac.dmg" installer. IMPORTANT - Don't install "HD_Driver_2021.10.0_Mac.dmg" I believe this installer is bad and what caused the problem to begin with. -Restart-

6. I installed Pro Tools 2021.10 - (Note: It locked up the computer completely on my first install for whatever reason and I had to force shut down my computer by holding down the power button. But after it booted up and I installed again, everything went perfectly) - Restart -

At this point I finally opened Pro Tools 2021.10 and the HDX card showed up just fine. The driver now loads on start up and everything seems to be functioning great minus the bugs people have already mentioned in other threads.

One other thought to consider.

I noticed under bug fixes, for 2021.10, there were two related to installers listed as:

-Fixed an issue that would cause the HD driver to intermittently not be recognized after a driver update on macOS (PT-276166)

-Fixed an issue that caused the HD Driver not to initialize on macOS after installing on top of a previous version (PT-276166)

So obviously there has been some problems they have been trying to address with the installer previous to release. I believe these fixes may not be included on the separate HD_Driver_2021.10_Mac, dmg installer.

Great! I always think it’s better with a clean install, I removed old Protools and the old driver then cleaned out preferences. Did a clean install of the driver and 2021.10 . But still got the hang with the HDX cards, until I loaded what ever it was that I can’t remember. Then went through all the plug-ins and updated them and all other ilok’s etc.

Well, I decided to not upgrade right now. Any official info from AVID on this? Looks like a serious issue. Can’t have any downtime here.

I'm struggling to get it to load on OS launch.

.7 works every time, .10 doesn't load at all.

If I disable SIP .10 loads every time, otherwise the only way I can get it to load is to type sudo touch /Library/Extensions in terminal.

Did you go through the steps that I went through to (like 3-4 posts back) fix it on my system? I had tried all combinations of installing, uninstalling, etc. It wasn't until I went through the exact process that I outlined that it worked for me.

I made a thread yesterday about a somewhat similar issue (HDN card/M1 Mac Mini w/chassis).

I called Avid yesterday and they were able to do a remote session and fix everything. There is a security issue that needs to be disabled, a bunch of scripts have to be run along with Digitest, etc... then security is enabled and it works perfectly since.

This is a known issue and they're providing cases to Engineering so call them and they can help.

Another thing they did was move all my iLok licenses from my machine/the cloud to my iLok2. They didn't tell me why but I've heard about iLok being a stumbling block lately.

If you want my case number as a reference because they told me everything had been logged send me a message. I spent about a week trying to figure this out. It took them about 45 minutes - 1 hour on remote session but it's perfect and rock stable now.

I did! A few times, it didn’t fix it for me initially. On one last attempt before bed, I tried the following:

Uninstall using .7 uninstaller, reboot, install .7 driver, reboot, install .10 driver, reboot, then boom! It works.

Hasn’t given me any grief since last night.

Update to my post.

I was having this issue until I reinstalled my UAD Apollo software and then it all worked fine.

Well today I just had to get the new AMS delay from UAD so that meant I had to download the latest UAD software. Once that was completed my HDX cards don't show up anymore.

So I go to the bookmark on the avid website for the line you enter in terminal to manually activate the hdx cards and, ITS GONE!!! Any search for hdx not recognized on mac on avids knowledge base is gone! I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the hd drivers and nothing.

**** ton of money in gear and pro tools doesn't function right now.
