Default Hammer Dulcimers???

Hey anybody know anything about hammer dulcimers. i am planning on making a purchase on one before the end of the year, and i dont know enough to know where to buy one from. i have been looking around, but i dont know if one companies product is better then anothers. I want to get a good one, but dont want to spend more then 800-1000. Should i get one from a company (that probly computer designs them) or from somebody that hand makes them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Christian,

There's a lady here in Memphis who specializes in playing the hammer dulcimer. Her name is Larkin Bryant, and I'll see if I can track her down for you tomorrow. If anyone would know where to look, it would be she. I'll let you know.....

Roy

I play fiddle. The German guy who does all my violin setups is a master violin maker. He also specializes in hammered dulcimers and the like instruments..Harps..etc. Give him a call or shoot him an email.. All of his instruments are VERY high quality. His website is at: Kelisheck Music. The guy's name is George Kelisheck. Tell him Randy the fiddler sent you. He'll treat you right.

Thanks,

Zetajazz

Christian,

Well, I simply haven't had any luck finding the lady today, so I'm sorry. She's not listed anymore, and the union is closed for the weekend.
I will try my best to find her Monday. I know you'll live if I don't find her, but I think she may be able to help.

I'll let you know though... Roy

Guys thanks for the help...and i appreciate you looking into it for me Roy, no problem about not finding this friend of yours. i am just happy to say i just ordered my hammer dulcimer (and i am extremely ecstatic).

Hey David001 thanks for the tip off to the dusty strings site, and Zetajazz thanks for the tip off to Kelisheck music. I ordered a dusty string dulcimer from Kelisheck music (thats all they deal with any more since he doesnt have time to build them any more). I spoke with George (i gave you props) and he was very cool about providing me information.

David001 from what i understand (after talking with very knowledgable people) is that dusty strings makes some of the best instruments in the business in the harp and dulcimer area. So thanks guys...if you want to check out what i ordered go to the dusty strings site and look up the D35.

Merry Christmas Me!
