Default Safe to update FW to "v9.0.1.1"?

I recently updated to PT 9.0.2 OS X 10.6.7, and now when I enable machine control, it prompts me to update my FW from 8.0.0.314 to 9.0.1.1. I just cancel out and it works like normal.

I remember reading a thread where someone updated their firmware when going from PT 8 to PT 9, and it made their D-Control unresponsive, so had to downgrade by booting up PT 8 and force roll back from there.

Anyone know if this is safe to do on my setup? I can't seem to find that specific thread.
