Default HD1 and 003R on the same machine?

I know not at the same time, but was curious of one could switch between the HD1 and 003R on the same computer, or if the Core card trumps everything else.

The reason I ask is because PT 9 HD on the HD1 actually gives me fewer voices etc, than I can get with either a 003R or similar third party interface, but was going to ask before I tried to track down another interface.

Anyone?

If the driver for the 003 is installed, it should work. You would have to open PT and go into the playback engine and select the 003(which might require a re-start).

I assume you mean for mixing? If so, how many outputs do you need? If you just need stereo, have you considered just using your built-in sound?

It seems the only advantage, unless you have the CPTK2 installed, would be when recording at 192k with the 003 you'll get 24 voices as opposed to 18 with the HD1

Supported Tracks
Voices (simultaneous audio playback @ 48/96/192 kHz)
48/48/not supported (mono or stereo)

Pro Tools 9 96/48/24 (mono or stereo)

Pro Tools 9 with Complete Production Toolkit 2* 192/96/36

Pro Tools HD 9** (HD1: 96/48/18)

The 003 only supports 18 inputs at once, and if you go past 10 inputs (8 analog and one SPDIF), you are stuck at 48kHz (ADAT in, no SMUX). 96kHz is the maximum supported by the 003 line.

I realize that but the OP was talking about getting more voices with PT9 and a 003 than what he could get with PT 9 HD1, which in this case would the voice count is the same until you have a session at 192k. Unless there is a mistake on the PT comparison chart.

I could be wrong, but does he even need the 003? When we are talking about voices, I am thinking playback. If we are just talking stereo playback, he could just switch over to the built-in audio. I might be misunderstanding the issue.

I guess that was kind of the point I was making, he doesn't gain any advantage by going to a 003 instead of the HD1. As the 003 will only support up to 96k that means the limit is 48 voices which is the same for the HD1 at 96k and 96 voices at 48k. However with the 003 and CPTK 2installed he would get 192 voices at 48K and 96 voices at 96k.

Got it. PT9 with the CPTK installed will give more voices than HD1. Agreed.

He would get that with the built-in audio as well for stereo playback. The 003 is not a necessary ingredient for stereo playback. That was my point.

Right, I currently am running PT 9 HD1, but looks like the way I'm reading the charts, I'd get twice the voices by using something like a 003R which in essence is PT9 + CPTK functionality.

I'd like to do some show premixes at home (where I have the HD1), so need multi out capabilities.

Thanks all!!
