I/O Setup doesn\'t see 192 Dig I/O, Hdwr Setup does
I have an HD 2 system on a Mac G4 867 running OS 9.2, Pro Tools 5.3. I have one 192 I/O and one 192 Digital I/O.
A session suddenly started to freeze on me and play short loops, and the only way I could stop it was to kill the computer. So I reloaded PT 5.3. I can now play a session, but I am getting only a few outputs. When I look at the Hardware Setup, it looks fine. I see both the 192 I/O and (below it) the 192 Digital I/O. It properly shows I am using an external word clock at 96k and the 192 I/O is looped to the 192 Digital I/O. When I look at the I/O Setup, all the setup names are correct and the array looks right..........but instead of showing the 192 Digital I/O at the top (to the right of the 192 I/O), it shows a question mark. So, Pro Tools sees the 192 I/O, but doesn't see the 192 Digital I/O. I don't understand this, since it sees the 192 Digital I/O in the Hardware setup. I have reloaded PT 5.3 three times, same result. Any suggestions? Thanks, Mike |

Re: I/O Setup doesn\'t see 192 Dig I/O, Hdwr Setup
One thing I forgot to mention. I reloaded PT 5.3 using the original CD I got with the HD system. While finding the CD, I also found one that looks the same except it says on the left side of the label:
"For 192 Digital I/O". I don't recall ever using this CD. I don't even remember when I got it; maybe when I bought the 192 Digital I/O (which came later). I assumed it is for using when you have ONLY a 192 Digital I/O, and no 192 I/O. I shouldn't be using this CD for loading PT 5.3, should I? Too many CD's on the shelf! Thanks, Mike |

Re: I/O Setup doesn\'t see 192 Dig I/O, Hdwr Setup
I just trashed DigiSetup in Preferences, then shut down the computer and all hardware. Then I restarted the hardware, then started the computer. This didn't solve the problem.

you are plugged into the Primary port not the Expansion port on the 192?

Re: I/O Setup doesn\'t see 192 Dig I/O, Hdwr Setup
Cables are:
-Main cable from Core card into 192 I/O Primary Port -Cable from Expansion port of 192 I/O to Primary Port of 192 Digital I/O. I don't think my problem is a cabling problem, since I have not changed any cables since the system was operating fine. I think it has to be a software problem. Thanks. |

did you trash your DAE prefs? and, for that matter, the DAE and reinstall that?

Re: I/O Setup doesn\'t see 192 Dig I/O, Hdwr Setup
No. Is that a biggie?
I followed the procedure that Digidesign Tech Support gave me: -Move the DAE folder to the desktop. -Create a new Plug-Ins folder on the desktop. -Move all plug-ins from DAE folder to new Plug-Ins folder. -Search for "Pro Tools". -Trash all folders you find (I actually trash everything I find). -Search for "Digidesign". -Trash all folders you find (I actually trash everything I find). -Empty trash. -Load PT 5.3 from CD. -Download 5.3.1 Upgrade from Digidesign site. -Load 5.3.1 (I keep getting an error, haven't been able to successfully load 5.3.1). -Compare DAE folder on desktop to DAE folder on System drive. Move anything over that you want to keep. -Compare Plug-Ins folder on desktop to Plug-Ins folder on System drive. Move over anything you want to keep. -Trash the two folders on the desktop. -Empty trash. -Restart computer. So, trashing DAE Preferences would not occur (since I didn't do a search of "DAE"). Could this be the problem? I sure hope so!!! Thanks. |

Could somebody please comment on this procedure, before I go through it again?
Digidesign Support person around? I will add "Trash DAE Preferences" to the list. |

I'll post the procedure in another thread, since this "Subject" is different.
