Default Ati Radeon 5770/5870 and Three Monitors

Hi All,

I thought I would throw this out there since I hadn't seen a current thread on this topic. We have found that in order to be able to get 3 working monitors out on the new Ati Radeon 577/5870 on the new 2010 Mac Pro's, you need to use the Dual Link adapters on the Display ports. Using the single link versions will only allow you to use 2 monitors at a time.

Also, if you want a somewhat cheaper alternative to the Apple adapaters, http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2.

This gives you the ability to run an Edit, Mix, and Picture monitor under Pro Tools 9.

:)

I figured I'd revive this thread, to help others in the same boat.

If you are not looking to go super high resolutions (I'm using a couple older 19" LCDs as dedicated Soundminer and Meters screens, to flank my Cinema Display), I found these that work GREAT at $30 each. Specs say up to 1920x1200, but I'm just using 1280x1024 for my second and third monitors.

A bonus is that it doesn't eat up a USB port for additional power, just remember it's only Single Link.

Yes, we've used the Accell ones, and they work just fine for single link.

That sounds awsome

So just to be clear I have the 2010 Model Computer Graphics card HD 5770. If I buy 2 of those adapters listed above and use the DVI out of the HD 5770 I can display 3 monitors?

Right now I have a Mini DP to DVI adapter and the DVI connection hooked up. For 2 monitors and I did buy another Mini DP to DVI adapter and of course it didn't give me 3 monitors.

So Buy two of the adapters above Ditch my Mini DP to DVI adapters (because they are non active?) and Im good?

Thanks in advance

kd

Correct kd,

At least in my setup, which only required single link adapters.
