Pro Tools is throwing multiple fatal errors during launch all of a sudden, and then just disappears. I have no idea here, and I have trashed "all" the usual suspects...

Ran Digitest a couple times, and all 3 cards passed.

Installed a fairly current backup system drive, and ran Disk Utility on the other one. Sorry for the unsharp images. I don't know how to make them any sharper with this file size.

Hi,

Clean uninstall and re-install to replace ALL PT program files.
Trash prefs in between and repair permissions and all that stuff.

If its not fixed by the install then look at your system drive and audio drive next.

Thanks, Chris.

I'm gonna throw away the system drive. Got all kinds of errors, and in the end it wouldn't even boot.

I had everything up and running on the backup drive, and it ran fine for a while, but now I'm getting fatal errors on that drive too. I have done a clean uninstall of PT, and tried to repair permissions before a reboot, but Disk Utility threw a "First Aid failed" error message.

I find it hard to believe that both drives collapses in one day. Can it be RAM? Can the second installed drive (audio drive) in the PPC be in such a state that it somehow interfers with the system drive?

New update...

The G5 won't reboot. It's stuck with a grey screen, and the fan(s) are blowing full speed.

What is on that grey screen? Nothing? Apple logo? Apple logo with spinning gear?

If you look inside the G5 chassis from the front, do you see any red LEDs illuminated?

Sorry to hear that. You might try zapping the PRAM or NVRAM. Or whatever they call that on a Mac.

I can only speak from PC experience but this is not good news.

You might try turning it off and and removing the memory. Try booting it without any memory then try it one stick at a time. Email me if you need help. Chief Technician or Toolbox would be more help.

Zapping pram was one such treatment for a bricked G5. Also try pulling the power plug and holding the power on button for 20 seconds.
