Default portable "isolation booths"?

I'm struggling with a problem that I think
many of you have had to deal with.

I'm trying to figure out how to record most
of a full band in a single room and achieve
isolation.

The thing that I'm most concerned about is
keeping electric guitar and scratch vocal out
of the room/overhead drum mics (the bass is
direct).

I'm toying with the idea of creating a
portable "isolation box" for the guitar and
a portable "isolation wall" for the vocal.

I'm thinking that the "isolation box" would
be a box large enough to contain the amp and
mics. It would be constructed out of
standard 2x4 sheetrock construction with insulation.

Similarly the wall for the vocals would
be standard 2x4 sheetrock construction, but
with a 2-layer plexiglass window for viewing
other band members.

Some questions:

Have any of you tried anything like this?
Did it work?
Is the guitar amp likely to have a problem with
heat in a small air-proof box?
Is the sound going to be wierd in a small box?
Anything that I'm not thinking about?

Thanks for any help.

We used to have the bass and guitar direct and get the drums first.Run the guitar player into amplitube or a pod or a j station.Download the amplitube demo if ya dont have it.

Marhsall makes an enclosed speaker cabinet with 1 12" in it with a mic clip to put a 57 up to it. It keeps the sound inside of it... check it out.

Tradionaly, bathrooms have worked well for isolation as well as garages, patios, etc.

We recently did a recording with no isolation and only the drums live in the room with scratch vocal being sung at low volume and everyone wearing headphones (Q-mix) and the rest of the instruments going direct for the 1st pass. We did a other passes for the acoustic guitar and replaced some of the elec. violin with acoustic, and then did vocal sessions.

You're probably going to have over dubs no matter what you do so capture the drums and build on that.

Cheers,
Toby
