Default Delay and loss of sound quality? Any help?

So I am having some problems with my ProTools LE 8 and was wondering if anyone knew anything I could do about it. I am experiencing a delay in my input instrument when I playback what I already recorded. My guitar is delayed compared to the already recorded track making it almost impossible to keep time. Whenever I turn the mix down the whole way everything is fine, but then I cannot hear the mix to record to it....any help? Also, I am losing sound quality when I playback a recording. It sounds fine while I am play it but as soon as I record it and play it back, it sounds bad. Help please?!

Lower your h/w buffer setting in setup/playback engine. Set it to 64 or 128. Loss of quality? Hmm, make sure you aren't recording too hot is all I can think of with the info you provided.

The odd thing is, generally, what you hear going in(on the headphones or speakers) is generally exactly what comes out. Maybe a detailed explanation of exactly what you are recording, and how(every piece of equipment and cables may affect the final product).

I cant think of anything it would be. Im using the mbox2mini with standard guitar cables running into the mbox. then the mbox is plugged into a guitar amp as the output speaker system with a standard guitar cable. it cant be the amp because I also had it plugged into computer speakers and I got the same sound. could it be the cables?

What "inputs" on the amp are you using?

Try lowering down the mix and lowering up the input on the mbox

A guitar amp is NOT a good monitoring system. They are anything but flat or accurate. Try some real studio monitors(in stereo). If you're on a tight budget, look at the Behringer 2030A as they are only about $229 a pair and are tough to beat in that price range.
