Pro Tools 10 - bundle / upgrade qualify question..

I'm a PT9 user.. bought it when it first came out.
Right now I'm looking to purchase a piece of new avid hardware tonight that comes with Pro Tools 9 bundled with it.

Since the rule is.. if you purchase PT9 after Oct'11, you auto-quality for Pro Tools 10.. and this is a brand new hardware purchase from avid that includes PT9.. can't I then upgrade PT9 for free to pt10?

I guess my main question is.. I already have the PT9 software/ilok which I've been using since it came out.. .... so how can I just easily upgrade..without having to uninstall my old PT9 with the new PT9, etc..

Pretty sure u have to uninstall - hope this wasn't misconstrued ! I have no idea about the free upgrade part bee really sure b/f u jump !!! Cause if not u might be stuck !!

When I moved from PT9 to 10 I had problems with plugs not authorizing. Once I uninstalled 9 and did a full install of 10 this fixed it. If you have any third party plugs just do a safe uninstall then reinstall 10 as this will keep those. If your buying a Avid product with PT9 then you will be able to upgrade to 10 for free.

You should be able to put the new ilok that comes with the PT9 license and still run the PT9 you currently have installed (this of course only if it comes with the full version of 9), its the new Ilok that will have the new upgraded PT10 license to DL.

I would do a system image (use acronis)of your drive with 9 on then uninstall pro tools 9 install 10 and see how it goes. If it doesn't work properly you can always revert back to your image. I have an image for every change I've ever made from pro tools HD. I can revert back to any version I want now with in 15 mins. This has been a life saver when I've done updates etc.

As for the upgrade you can sell your pt 9 license coz the PT 10 license comes bundles with a PT 9 license as well

just spoke with the friendly folks over at sweetwater and they told me that it is a full version of pT9 that comes with the avid hardware bundle I'm interested in.. so I should be able to simply register my hardware and my new PT9 software with avid.. then I'll receive the serial/ilok stats for the new PT9 and the link to download PT10 upgrade.. and that I could upgrade that from my existing install of PT9.

will DEFINITELY be imaging as you've suggested.. just incase.. I'll have to check out the program you mentioned for that..
