Yeah youll find a lot of improvement.

I have the same board but with a 1G chip.

Don't waste your money on so much ram.
After 256Mg there really isn't any improvement on PT and so much ram might even
slow down your machine.see previous posts on this issue.

Very Cool. I have been reading the posts and that is why I am venturing out "on the limb" with amd. I have heard horror story after horror story about conflicts with the ptle/oo1 set-up. Is there anything helpful you could tell me in the setup like somehing special I will have to do that it doesn't specify in the pt manuals?

Thanks for the reassurance!!!!!

Joey

Hi,

Buy a Promise Ultra ATA 100 Controller for $45.00. You HAVE TO buy this. Onboard IDE controllers perform really bad.

As Justin suggested,

Put your Digi001 in PCI Slot 4 (4th from AGP) and hard set it to IRQ9 from BIOS.

Put your Promise Controller in to PCI Slot 3 and Hardset it to IRQ5 from BIOS. Disable onboard IDE Controllers. Disable USB if you do not have any USB device. Set Plug and Play BIOS to "YES" in BIOS. Your system should work very very well this way. Mine does.

Good Luck and stay Cool

Thanks Alot. I will order it tommorrow! I appreciate your help. My current system drives me nutz because it doesn't seem to have ANY CPU for just a couple of plugins. This system should rock from what I am hearing.

Hey Joey,
The only thing I would suggest is getting your DDR ram from Micron. It is just as inexpensive as the generic now and you can get the best quality 256MB PC2100 for around 50.00 and free shipping. I would just call them to see if you could get the CL=2 type. Just tell them your motherboard and they will set you up. I've seen performance testing on the CL=2 VS CL=2.5 and there is about a 5-10% performance difference in the two. It is hard to find the CL=2 type though.
The other thing I've picked up on Overclockers sites is using the Volcano II heatsink/fan or water cooling to lower CPU temps about 10C and decrease noise in these fast Athlons. I use the Koolance water cooled case and disonnected my case fan. The only fan I hear now is from the power supply. Koolance is supposed to be coming out with a new unit to support the 1.4Ghz+ AMD processors in the next two months.
Good luck and I know you will like your new setup.

Very helpful guys! Hey another unrelated question...... I understand how to select a new take on a track and record new takes and I also understand how to switch between them to check them out but what I can't seem to get right is the best way to replace a section with the same section of an alternate tack. For example: I have a vocal line that says " I wanna fix this track in protools baby, baby ooo baby " I like the word "protools" from take 2 and the words "fix this track" from take 4 .... how do I replace them?

Told ya it was unrelated )

but thanks in advance!

- Joey
