Default Thinking about switching to PC

I would like to start this off by asking that this not turn into war regarding platforms (Mac/PC/etc)...

I am currently using my 001 with an older Beige G3 (the one Digi recommends you NOT use) that is very near the end of its life. My dilemma is what to buy next. I look at the price of the new Macs vs. the PCs and can't help but think I could buy a PC and some other audio toy(s) and still come out much farther ahead. I don't have much investment in the plug-in side of things at this time (still need to check if I can just change platforms with the current ones).

As regular Digi/PC users are there any things that make you cringe when using PT (and secretly long for a Mac [grin]) and conversely are there things you believe make the PC a better platform. I have friends who live in the PT (TDM) Mac world, are there any problems with cross platform projects?

My work offers staff deals on new Dells (OptiPlex) which is just a little more incentive to try and make this work on the PC.

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Grasshopper, you have seen the light.
Talent, passion, desire ---> ALWAYS before technology, particularily, an OS and the plastic housing it resides in.

No need for more wars, you're absolutely right, they're both fine computers. Do what you feel is right, looks like you're already there.

Hello,
I faced the same thing when my G4 was obsolete(slow) 6 months after I bought it. Fortunately
for you and me, Mac Addicts pay dearly for even
old Macs! Check Ebay.
Pro Tools is Pro Tools on whatever computer you
use. It looks the same and operates the same on
either platform. My switch has been very easy.
It is nice to be able to run many more plugs and
edits etc.
What you can get for your G3 will easily pay
for decent PC from Dell or whomever.

I am trying to install the Protools LE 5.0.1 onto the Windows Millenium OS. Has anyone else had difficulty with this? Will this version of Protools run on this OS?

John17, no, that version will not work on winME. Use, instead, 5.1
