Default Mixer to Mbox via S/PDIF: Number of avail Inputs?

This is probably a simple question but I've had a look around and I can't get a clear answer to this so here goes: I own an Mbox1 (original) and a Soundcraft M8 mixer. If I hook the M8 up to the Mbox via S/PDIF will I be able to have more than the standard 2 inputs. I'm trying to record drums and would love an extra 2 inputs for snare and kick mics. Is this possible?
Any help would be great as this is really bugging me.

Thanks
Steve

Am I right in thinking that the 8 channels of my mixer will be summed to a stereo track via S/PDIF then? and presumably one must record either via analogue or digital but not both?

Thanks for the reply. Just one more question then: Know of any way I could squeeze two or more tracks out of the Mbox? Can you chain Mboxes together?, as I have an available 3 Mboxes to work with.

Thanks,
Steve

Nope. The only way to use more than one mbox would be to use more than one computer as well (one for each mbox)

To get more than two simultaneous inputs in Pro Tools, you will need a different Digidesign interface.

Thanks, thats cleared a lot up. I imagine if you use 2 Mboxes and 2 computers there is no way of aligning the tracks other than visually nudging them into place?
