Default DAE Error #-4 and -7100

Exisitng 96K/24bit session with 19 tracks.

1. Add Stereo Master Fader
2. Add Multichannel Fairlight Compressor to insert 1

Result: ProTools hangs up. spinning ball appears. A few of the tracks become disabled. ProTools DAE error -7100. PT is now unresponsive. Anytime I try to navigate, it takes at least 30 seconds for the program to respond.

Action: try to enable the newly disabled tracks. I then get DAE error-4: ProTools encountered an error (#-4) while allocating voices. As a result, not all audio tracks were voiced.

Action: Delete Master Fader. PT still unresponsive.

Action: Quit PT (cmd-Q), PT unexpectedly quits.

Action: Re-import all tracks to a new session.Add new Stereo Master. Same problem occures ONLY when I instantiate the Fairlight compressor.

This is repeatable on this session but not on a new session.

check the answerbase on the digi site in the support section ....

for your convenience :

dae error -7100 :
Answer Details

Sessions residing in "Read-Only" folders will cause Access Violations, -7100 DAE errors and -7453 DAE errors when attempting Audio Suite processing.

Once these errors occur you must reboot your system to allow any further Audio Suite processing. Changing the session folder to a "Normal" status will alleviate these errors.

--------
to check folder permissions got to info : command (apple) + i after selecting the folder.

DAE error #4 or -4 ??? .... search gives different results .... varying from possibly defect hardware to file names that are too long (#4)

try to read up on them and see if you can narrow it down to a possible solution.

Good luck.

Perhaps the Fairlight is making a bad I/O connection to a DSP (hence the -7100). Curious if the required Accel DSPs are open when you activate the Fairlight? you could try importing the master track into a new session before all other tracks, or make other plug-ins inactive before activating the Fairlight.

(I'm investigating the Fairlight development status right now......)

I'll be back!

Sessions residing in "Read-Only" folders will cause Access Violations, -7100 DAE errors and -7453 DAE errors when attempting Audio Suite processing.

This is irrelevant since the folder was not Read-Only and I was not Audio Suite Processing.

#-4. How do I attach my screen shot of the error message? My last posting has the full text from the error message. I'll keep searching that one.

More Action: I added a multi-channel mono Fairchild compressor and it worked fine except the first time I muted it, there was a long zipper sound. Subsequent muting and unmute did not produce the same result.

Thanks

here's the entire error message:

ProTools encountered an error (#-4) while allocating voices. As a result, not all audio tracks were voiced.
