Crazy DSP Bug on PT 2021.3 with Catalina/Mac Pro 2019 12 Core
Hi guys, I have a huge problem on PT 2021.3 - Mac Pro 2019 - Catalina
- Since I did the mistake of thrashing the preferences in order to see why I was missing the Ableton plugin in the insert list, I started having problems...PT wasn't booting, fatal errors while scanning plugins...randomly. - Then I've reinstalled PT...same problem. So I've deleted all plugins, thrashed any kind of preferences and reinstalled PT, reinstalled all plugins, and it worked. PT was working fine. - But then, when I opened the session I was perfectly working with before all this mess, I noticed that the Cpu Usage was fixed red at 100%, using only Core 12 and 13 at 100%. If I press play nothing happens, stop button is on and play button is blinking. The sessions normally was around 20% total cpu usage. - I've tried to manually deactivate and remove step by step every plugin in the session with no effect in the Cpu indicator. - I've tried to manually deactivate each track to notice a change on CPU, nothing changes. If I delete all tracks, CPU is still RED 100%. - I've tried to make a session copy with only the main tracks, the problem is still there. - This condition remains the same also when I close the session. PT is still on 100% Cpu usage. The weird side of the story is that sometimes, when I open the session, it shows red 100% cpu usage only in the first seconds, after that it goes back to normal and I can normally work on the session. If I reboot or reopen the session, everything is still fine. But if I reboot PT and reopen the session, there are many chances that I have the bug. I only know that. right before trashing preferences, everything was working fine. But I've reinstalled PT, I've reinstalled every single plugins and the boot process was ok. Can't understand where is the bug. Looks like not connected to the sessions but something independent. I was also thinking of downgrading to the previous PT release and make a comparison. It should be the 2020.12 right? My setup is a Mac Pro 2019 12 Core / Catalina 15.7 / Apollo interfaces on cascade I attached a screenshot of the bug. Hope you guys there have any idea...tks [IMG][/IMG] Last edited by Paulienat; 03-31-2021 at 11:03 AM. |

I tried....with low and high buffer settings. The session is not heavy for my system, it was around 20% cpu usage before this. Inviato dal mio iPad utilizzando Tapatalk

Perhaps you can get an earlier version of Protools through Avid's Download Center. I have not used this, but it sounds like it might be what you need.

Have you tried changing the "Optimize Performance at Low Buffer Settings" checkbox, under Setup -> Playback Engine ?
Regardless of whether you are using small buffers, I have seen that improve the mad 100% spikes in the CPU usage window. |

I’ve noticed that the latest Radeon 5600 and related cards can cause crazy CPU spikes. What’s your video card?
