Default Would I really notice a difference with more RAM?

Hey guys. Currently I'm using a

MacBook Pro 13"
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz

Recording to an OWC 250 GB AL Pro Drive.

Setup is MBP>MBox2Pro>Ext HD

I hear conflicting reports all the time about whether or not Pro Tools will run better with 8GB of RAM vs 4 with it being a 32bit program. Can anyone give me any insight here

as long as you're not running lots of other ram hungry programs at the same time as pro tools you're set up is not too bad as far as memory usage.
where ram really helps is when you have a plug in heavy session.
are you having problems?

No problems at all really. 50 track sessions on 256 hw buffer dae buffer set to default.

I was just more thinking if more RAM would give my computer an easier work load. Just thinking of ways to extend the life span of my computer down the road.

What year is your MBP? Some of the older (2008ish) core duo 2 will not recognize memory above 3GB, even though you can install 4GB RAM boards. However some people have reported using memory up to 8GB. YMMV.

Adding RAM is not going to make anything esier on the computer since the CPU is just doing math. Now if you were running out of memory or close to it adding memory would help prevent memory related errors

2008ish?

More like, 2006ish.

My late 2007 MBP has 6GB running no problems, and even Apple spec'd it to go up to at least 4GB.

With a 32 bit app like PT, you can't use any more than 4 GB of RAM. I understand the program actually uses less then 3 GB.

Of course if you have multiple apps running and a lot of VIs, then you could use more RAM in your computer.

You can open the Activity Utility and see exactly how much RAM a program is using.

Yeah, it's seems to be really unclear as to what the limitations are.
