Re: PT 2024.3 | Released

The bottom of the edit window seems just a terrible place to overload with more stuff, many of us battle like hell to have what we need visible on the screen as it is, and the my edit window bottom edge will often be pushed off the bottom of the screen. Buttons and other thingies don't need to be there. Software companies in the audio space seem to have problems with UI stuff, Avid is just one of many. I can point out multiple examples. I wonder how much of that is the huge gulf between unique/creative/interesting takes on skeuomorphic designs, especially with plugins and VIs vs. areas where the design needs more traditional application UI/UX thinking, and dealing with that ground in between. It is the whole analog console skeuomorphism in Pro Tools that is so very well done and a huge part of why many of us like Pro Tools. And it stings when Avid messes us this lovely UI/UX. And yes I have experience in delivering products with complex UIs, have seen/made mistakes, and seen well done user/usability testing complexly change internal ideas that seemed great at the time... and had that save our bacon. |

Re: PT 2024.3 | Released
I agree with BScout and Darryl on their points about the "tab chin".
Another irksome one are the recent changes to Memory Locations, (added columns, no repositioning, removal, etc) which have seen no resolution in this latest release. |

This compares to the HUUUUUUGE amount of wasted space the Clip FX window used to be, in absolute prime real estate obliterating around a quarter of the entire window. Now the window is detatchable, that is a night and day difference to me. So it's a big THANK YOU to Avid from me. I'm grateful for getting 90% of the way there and am not that fussed about the last remaining 10% but of course YMMV. I'm really hoping there's no major new gremlins hidden in this release, it's been a while since there was one I'd be happy to stick on.

I would still like to see the option to have all clips default to having all Clip Effects modules de-activated. And also, to see this Clip Effects section open to 3rd-party companies such as FabFilter - especially since the tab is now detachable, and could potentially be re-sized by the user for FFQ3 etc. We could then even expand the capabilities to other more creative plugins on clips. |

Re: PT 2024.3 | Released
Ok. MIDI plugins back = good.
But what is needed even more than one-finger toys and layers is 1)individual delay offsets for articulations, 2)controller remapping and controller scaling, and 3)selective port mapping, which I am not sure is a thing in the new plugins. 1)Something that simply sees a command like a program change or keyswitch and advances a MIDI note by a certain amount, to offset its inherent delay; and some logic to do things like not offset the first note of a legato phrase in the same amount as any of the following notes. 2)A transformation of one CC to another and also response curves for any CC. 3)Something that on an incoming message routes a note to another track. If done within a folder one would have on the surface of it a single instrument, and then within that some switching logic to route things, one could handle articulation switching and the offset delay issue by just offsetting the individual destination tracks.

Re: PT 2024.3 | Released
I haven't installed yet, but I've been watching the videos on Avid's YouTube channels.
Kinda loving the way that MIDI Plugins have been implemented. I had concerns that it would be a whole additional section in the Edit and Mix Windows, but making them... just... Inserts with the rest of the AAX plugins, and respecting signal flow to make them work correctly in that paradigm is the kind of "well, of course" inspired move that Avid has shown with other "finally" features (Commit/Freeze, Folder Tracks). They may be late to bring some features (compared to other DAWs) but when they finally drop them, there's an extra layer of intelligence to their implementation. Good job on that, y'all!

Re: PT 2024.3 | Released
Is anyone else having an issue when you click Save As? For me I get the spinning beach ball until it disappears but save box appears.
All the other save options work, Save, Save Copy In, and Save as Template. Thanks! Chris |
