Pro Tools 2021.12 Software Instruments No Audio

I have not found a solution. I was dealing with it all morning with a session I was working on. Very frustrating. The more people who can speak up about this and make this a bigger deal, the more likely we can get people figuring out what is going on.

Right now it seems only a few of us even seem to be dealing with this problem.

Maybe if people that have this issue can at least provide the following info:

Which computer are you using?
What Operating System
What is your buffer setting at?
Which virtual instrument is giving you a problem?

This could perhaps help us figure out if there are any common things with this.

I'll Start.


I'm on a 2019 Mac Pro 16 Core 3.2 Ghz, 160 GB of Ram
Big Sur 11.7
128 (I see this probem happen most at lower buffers 64 and 128)
Komplete Kontrol/Kontakt 6-7 with Alicia Keys especially happens all the time.

VIs stop to play in many sessions. Falcon with Raven 275 specially?

Hmmm. This is interesting. I have had this happen with IK MODO Bass 2. The VI is receiving MIDI. You can see in the GUI that notes are being played, yet it goes silent. I think what I’ve done in the past is closer and reopen the project and it plays again. Weird. This is in PT 2022.12 running in native (beta) mode on M1 Max Mac Studio and Ventura 13.2.1

not a fix per se, but a workaround until Avid fix it (just after your next renewal is due)
copy your MIDI to a MIDI track, and assign the MIDI track to that instrument.

Interestingly enough, I just opened the project that in which MODOBass 2 was sometimes not playing back, and that's how I set it up. The MIDI was in a separate MIDI track. It was not embedded in the Instrument Track.

When you have these problems, go to midi window and see if the midi is greyed out. If it is, the track has lost assignment. So, just redo it. No need to have midi on separate track (oldskool way), just fix the assignment.

I’m also aware of this bug too that occasionally happens, but this isn’t the same thing. When this bug happens and the instrument stops playing, the midi area is still routed properly. Going to different places in the project and hitting playback several times often gets it temporarily working again.

Exactly!

I'm using a 2020 M1 MacBook Pro with 8Go of RAM, on macOS Monterey, but had the exact same problem with my old 2013 MacBook Pro with an earlier OS... I reinstalled everything from scratch on my new mac.
It happens to me with different plugins such as SSD (Steven Slate Drums), Kontakt, Analog Lab, ... I think (but I'm not sure) it does not happen with stock plugins such as XPand or MiniGrand (but I don't use them a lot, that's maybe why).
