Only have access to 'Micro' playback engine
I recently got Pro Tools MP 9 but I can't get any sound out of it. I've imported midi files from Sibelius 7 and they show up on screen with the various bars and the playback works on screen but no sound comes out.
I'm using an M-Audio usb micro as the interface (which should work as an interface supposedly) and a M-Audio keystudio 49 for input. My OS is Windows 7 64-bit and I've installed all the relevant drivers I could find. I've tried chaning the playback engine but I only have the 'micro' setting. Does anybody have any advice they could give me? It's driving me mad! Thanks in advance! |

Re: Only have access to 'Micro' playback engine
Importing midi files is only half the battle. You need to assign them to actually play something. Try this. Create a stereo instrument track right below one of your midi tracks(one that has midi data on it). Insert the MiniGrand plugin in the first insert slot on the instrument track. Once the plugin loads, and you can mouse-click on keys and hear piano; close the plugin window. Now highlight the midi data on the midi track and hit Ctrl-C(to copy). Use the ; key to move the cursor down to your instrument track and hit Ctrl-v(to paste). Now all your midi should be on the instrument track. Hit play and see if the piano plugin plays(I'll cross my fingers). The long and short of this is; midi info makes no sound of its own. It has to be directed to a midi sound source, which can be a VI plugin(like MiniGrand) or an external sound module or keyboard with onboard sounds. Let us know what happens

Re: Only have access to 'Micro' playback engine
You have to put the MIDI file on a VI track or route it to a VI track with a VI instanciated that has the sound you want the MIDI file to play. MIDI itself is just data.
