Default CPU Meter Spiking

Hello All,
Has anyone else ever had this problem? Sessions that were
running fine before now won't. I get running out of CPU error.
I notice when I look at the CPU meter I see a thin green line in front
spiking and going into the red. Even when nothing is running .
could if be a corut file???
I had this problem before (it happened after updating OS9.1 to 9.2 and
updating the firmware) and I did fix it by erasing my system hard
drive and doing a new install Back to OS 9.1.
I would hate to have to go though that again..
Any ideals on what this could be ?
I don't beleive there is anything running in the background
I use this machine for pro tools only. Thanks

Mac G4 466 w/ 1ghz sonnet upgrade
1.28 gig ram (260pt/ 200dae)

man, i just had the same damn thing happen, except that i didn't change a thing! The only thing that changed was that I moved my machine, and now i can't even playback two tracks without the thing peaking out... in the exact same fashion that you described. Anyone, please help!

Are all your plug in files closed under your DAE? Sometimes when I have all my plugins displayed on my system drive, it seems like it taxes the cpu, at least it does on my G4 800. But when I close them all, the meter is no longer pegged in the red.

I have a G4/466Mhz (Digital Audio) w/Sonnet 1Ghz upgrade.

I constantly have a problem with my PCI Usage meter pegging to red when I open sessions.

I'm starting to wonder if I made the right choice by upgrading my CPU.

I had this with the cpu and also the system meter around 2 years ago, seemed that it happened to some of the early 733 quicksilvers.
I fixed it with a strip down of extensions, really weeding out the extensions from the base set and making a audio set.
this fixed my prob.
hope this helps.
