DIGI 001 & Logic 6???
I currently have a G4 power mac with dual 867MHz processors. I use a DIGIDESIGN DIGI 001 as my sound card and run Pro Tools (5.2.3 OS9/6.1 OSX) as my main audio sequencing software. I am thinking about purchasing the Logic 6 Big Box & would preferably like to run both applications at once & route the audio of Logic straight into Pro Tools. Is this possible? More to the point is it necessary? I have been previously exporting loops from Reason into Pro Tools but if the sounds don't work in my piece, I have to close PT and restart Reason again. I'd like to make use of the many software synths & additional features that Logic offers & manipulate sounds in 'real time' using Pro Tools as a master. I want to streamline my music making so more time can be spent being creative as opposed to sitting waiting for programs to start-up & close. Does Logic for OSX have Rewire?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx Richard |

I haven't got much of a response yet. Am I to assume that talking about Logic is a taboo or uninteresting?

Logic 6 has rewire. I don't know if you can output logic into PT but Logic on it's own is awesome. I plan to track in logic and then perhaps mix in PT

Re: DIGI 001 & Logic 6???
MartinC, what would be the advantage to tracking in Logic? Is it more stable, better plugs, etc...? Also, why would you use PT to mix, why not use Logic for tracking and mixing?

Re: DIGI 001 & Logic 6???
Logic has Rewire so you can input Reason/Live into it without difficulty - just like PTLE does now.
You cannot input audio from Logic into PT UNLESS YOU ARE using two seperate hardware interfaces - you could use a USB A6/2 (eMagic) to input to a firewire or PCI Digi device (i.e. 001 or 002) but I can't see why on earth you'd want to do it. Although you can use Digi hardware as a 'front end' to logic software, you can't get that audio thru the computer to PT. Right now the advantage of Logic is that it has a truely great integrated soft sampler in the EXS 24MKII and more fully realized MIDI composition tools. (I do use Reasons NNXT for its sampling into PTLE via Rewire, but its not ideal and really pulls the CPU useage up. Maybe Mach 5 RTAS will do it for me - I will try it, but for now I've been doing Logic/EXS when I need more sampler) Once you learn Logic, you may/may not prefer to do all your audio within it, skip PT altogther, and use your digi hardware as a front end. It lacks that 'tape recorder' model of simplicity that PT has - but many pros use Logic as their main audio app. Opinions will vary - some love it, some hate it. |
