Default importing large aiff file trouble

I'm trying to import a large (1 gig) stereo, 16 bit, 48k aiff file into ProTools. When I use the 'import audio to track' function, ProTools goes ahead and processes the file for about 5 minutes and then an error message comes up saying 'end of file reached' (-39) error. I've imported the file into Waveburner and it works fine. I'm using PT 5.1 and OS 9.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Greg Frey

Make sure the name of the file consists of acceptable characters and is no longer than 27 characters.

Rail

Thanks for the reply. The file is named Stereo-48-16 Master.aif

Is there anything wrong with that? If I change it to master.aif will that help?

Thanks

It's been reported that the "-" character can cause issues under OS X (I know you're under OS 9).. perhaps it's a throwback to Unix where the minus sign was used as a parameter designator.

Try removing any minus/dashes from the file name and see if it helps.

Try a straight import. If that fails, open it in wavelab and save as a .wav or other format. I'm unfamiliar with waveburner, but last resort, rerecord it. Make sure your destination disk (on import) isn't too full. PT can't directly import a stereo inteleaved file. It's gotta break it in half.

Shift-Apple-I

will import the file into the audio bin only.

Are you trying to convert to file while you import?

Hi,

you probably considered it, but anyway - does your harddrive have enough space for double filesize and is it fragmented?
I would recommend a large space available........

best from germany
